Cape York Weekend
We follow one of our customers who took a trip to the Cape. The journey involved challenging terrains and relentless off-road conditions. The team encountered both expected and unexpected issues with their vehicle, highlighting the importance of pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
Pre-Trip Inspection:
Before departing, a pre-trip inspection was conducted, revealing two vital issues:
- Tangled Winch: The winch, a critical component for recovery, was tangled and wouldn't unspool. Prompt action was taken to rectify this issue, ensuring the functionality of the winch for the trip.
- Snorkel Seal: The snorkel, designed to protect the engine during water crossings, was not fully sealed. The issue was addressed to prevent damage during the journey. which was lucky as it got pretty deep in some sections.
During the Trip:
Unfortunately, a significant incident occurred where the vehicle rolled into a ditch, resulting in considerable damage to the door, snorkel and wheels.
Post-Trip Inspection:
The customer's post-trip inspection uncovered additional issues:
- Loose Suspension Components: The rigorous journey caused some suspension components to come loose. Immediate repairs were conducted to ensure the safety and stability of the vehicle.
- Alignment Issues: The vehicle desperately needed an alignment, likely worsened by the challenging terrains. This was addressed to optimize handling and tire wear.
- Ball Joint Concerns: While some ball joints needed replacing, the team decided to continue the journey with assurances from the workshop that they would be sufficient for the return trip.
Lessons Learnt:
- Thorough Pre-Trip Inspection: The importance of a comprehensive pre-trip inspection cannot be overstated. It helps identify and address potential issues before they become serious problems during the trip.
- Vehicle Resilience: The vehicle demonstrated resilience in enduring challenging conditions. However, a post-trip inspection is crucial to identify and rectify any wear or damage sustained during the journey.
- Safety First: Despite the determination to complete the expedition, safety should always be the top priority. Addressing critical issues promptly ensures the well-being of the customer and the longevity of the vehicle.
